stheere: PS: I am just SO EXCITED to have you reccing books to me??? Thanks for making such an effort! (like asking what I'm into? WHAT??) I really am in love with your writing, so I feel like anything you rec me will be amazing haha. If you ever write that second book, I'll be one og the first in line to buy it! And if you write fanfiction in the meanwhile (whatever fandom that is, though wow, Homestuck is great), I will happily read that too!

Gosh, this is so cute <3

Ok, some things I like! This is ignoring the entire contemporary-real-world selection available because my “meh, real world” issues mean I haven’t explored those.

Incursion, by Aleks Voinov: spacefaring sci fi with a disabled soldier protagonist — Aleks is really good with determined, wounded-warrior characters. mmf. (If that is a character type that appeals to you, also check out his Memory of Scorpions series, which is a military/political fantasy with a POC lead.)

Santuario, by GB Gordon: colony sci fi/police procedural that does a lot with cultural differences and pride and internalized homophobia and struggling against corrupt systems. A “holy shit I can’t believe this was your first novel” book.

The Gravedigger’s Brawl by Abigail Roux: Perfect for this time of year, a fast-paced haunted-house (well, haunted-tavern) mystery with fun, lively characters.

Mark of the Gladiator by Heidi Belleau and Violetta Vane: Roman historical that deals with classical slavery in a really solid way, neither glossing it over nor making it misery porn. Also, *amazing* supporting cast of lady gladiators.

Fragile Bond by Rhi Etzweiler: you know you want original fiction with mating pheromone tropes. First-contact sci fi with cool aliens and a situation where guns are not the answer.

SOMETHING by Alex Beecroft, who has a fantastic command of language; try The Blessed Isle, Age of Sail romance as told through the journals of the gentlemen involved.

Similarly, something by Alexis Hall, who seems like one to watch; I loved Iron and Velvet, an everything-but-the-kitchen-sink urban fantasy with a wry noir-ish lady protagonist (and some great digs at the teenage vampire-boyfriend fantasy). I’m also really looking forward to Prosperity, which looks to be the beginning of a really cool steampunk universe populated by queers and POC.

Gosh. I want to keep going! But I kind of need to catch a bus to work. And also this is probably plenty to start with. Hope you find something here you like! XD

STASHING THIS LIST FOR LATER

ps i don’t wanna out you cypher if you’re separating out your fanfic lately but goddamn find a way to slyly rec your fic regardless it is so choice

I bleed it out…
I’ve opened up these scars…
I’ll make you face this…!

I’ve pulled myself so far…
I’ll make you face this now…!!

This started out as just some facial expression practice and it quickly turned into an all out photoset. I’m beyond happy with it though, I have a thing for blood so that’s always fun to color. Enjoy, you guys !

We bring you a Special News Flash from the field:

flarpingofficial:

It’s new, it’s blue - it’s Flarping.com!

Are you a roleplayer? Do you like roleplaying with people? If you’re interested in any kind of online Homestuck-based RPing, this is the place for you.

Overdramatic sales pitch aside:

What is Flarping? I’m glad you asked, me!

It’s a dedicated roleplay network, with a layout comparable to some kind of conglomerate Facebook, Blogspot, and forum site.

What do we have to offer? We have statuses, moods, tags, groups, forums, journals, achievements, a blocking feature that actually works, and a shitload of room for people to interact and talk to one another as the character they choose to be.

Afraid of overlords? Our staff is hella fuckin’ friendly.

Hell, need a place to get back in the groove of roleplaying? Come and ask for advice from fellow roleplayers. Many are willing to help!

Like what you see? Check out under the cut for some more sweet details.

Yehh. >:D

I’ve been on this site for a few days now as Proper Debris and have met a bunch of cool people (also had the preconception that I’d be avoiding canon trolls completely dispelled by a particularly awesome person). Come roleplay with the ISS Shooting Star!!
